Biography of Robert Gordon
Robert Gordon emerged from the New York new wave rock scene of the mid-'70s, even though his music had little connection to it. He was, in essence, a rockabilly singer, albeit 20 years too late. After briefly working with the new wave band Tuff Darts, he began an association with veteran rockabilly guitarist Link Wray. Bruce Springsteen wrote "Fire" for him (though The Pointer Sisters had the hit), and Gordon recorded several of the songs of Marshall Crenshaw, helping him to recognition on his own. ~ William Ruhlmann
